“The invariable mark of wisdom is to see the miraculous in the common.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Wonderland! is a children’s festival that attracts between 300-500 visitors each year on one very special afternoon. Designed to encourage imagination and possibilities in children of all ages, young and old, Wonderland takes place on the third Friday of August, during the week of Phillips’ Old Home Days.
Many magical events are open free of cost to all. Children are given faery wings, halos and wands; pirate hats and scarves; cowboy hats and more. Fishing for prizes under the stars, sno-cones, popcorn, helium balloons and even more. Children are given the opportunity to sit with their parents and make a faery house and decorate a magic box . . . taking a tour down faery alley brings you to the Faery Queen’s Bower, where you will be given a special faery name and magic dust. Around the corner in Pirates’ Cove they dig for chocolate coins . . . Professional artists paint the children’s faces in wondrous ways.
Wonderland opens the door of hopefulness for many children who will never have the opportunity to attend any other theme park event. The experience offers joy and wonder to many children who live under the poverty level in economic wealth, yet mine deeply for the richness of spirit.
Developed by Dr. Sanders to meet the psychological and spiritual needs of her adopted community, Wonderland is sponsored by Morning Bridge Center and a small handful of Friends of Wonderland. If you would like to become a Friend of Wonderland, you may donate through Pay Pal or through the mail to Wonderland! PO Box 251, Phillips, Maine 04966. The children’s hearts thank-you for your generosity!

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.” ~William Blake
